Richard E Grant's net worth is usually put at between £6 million and £8 million, but none of the outlets quoting those figures shows how it was worked out. The one company on the public register under his legal name, a perfume business called Swaziboy Limited, had net assets of £121,651 in March 2026. That is real money for a small firm, but it is nowhere near the headline sums. Grant, 69, became the first Traitor banished from series two of The Celebrity Traitors on 8 October 2026, which is why his finances are back in the news. Below is what can be checked, and where the rest is guesswork.

How much is Richard E Grant worth?

Nobody outside his family and advisers knows. Grant has never published a figure, and UK actors are not required to disclose their savings, property or pensions. What you see online is a set of estimates that mostly repeat one another:

  • Celebrity Net Worth lists $8 million on a profile it says was last updated on 1 October 2026.
  • Heart (2 October 2026) gives "around £6 million" and credits that figure to Celebrity Net Worth.
  • LADbible and The Tab (both 2 October 2026) say £8 million. Neither names a source. LADbible ranks him fifth on its Celebrity Traitors rich list.
  • On 8 October 2026, The Tab ran an all-series rich list putting him at £6 million, "according to various different estimations".

So the £6m and £8m numbers come from the same few days of coverage, and one site has printed both. The £8m figure matches Celebrity Net Worth's dollar estimate number for number, just in pounds. We treat all of them as unverified estimates. We don't add a figure of our own.

What the Swaziboy accounts show

Search the Companies House officer register for his legal surname, Grant-Esterhuysen, and you get one record, born May 1957, with one appointment: Swaziboy Limited. Grant has been a director since the company was set up in March 2013. It is registered under SIC code 20420, the manufacture of perfumes and toilet preparations, and its filings describe its activity as "that of a perfume producer and wholesaler". The accounts never name the JACK brand. Still, the activity, the timing (JACK launched a year later) and the people on the board all point to it being the company behind his fragrance line.

It is a family company. Grant and his late wife, the dialect coach Joan Washington, were both directors from the start, and each was listed as holding between 25% and 50% of the shares. Joan stood down on 27 January 2021, the same day their daughter Olivia joined the board and became a person with significant control. Grant and Olivia now each hold between 25% and 50%.

Swaziboy files micro-entity accounts. That means a short balance sheet and no profit and loss account, so we can't see its turnover, profit or what it pays out. Here is how its net assets have moved:

Year to 31 MarchNet assets
2016£63,582
2017£78,834
2018£89,138
2019£116,843
2020£97,664
2021£95,709
2022£113,999
2023£110,288
2024£103,057
2025£121,820
2026£121,651

The latest accounts, approved on 10 August 2026, show current assets of £145,675, less £21,400 owed within a year and £2,624 of accruals, which gives the £121,651 figure. The company had an average of one employee. Net assets have stayed between roughly £95,000 and £122,000 since 2019. Because no profit and loss account is published, these balance sheets don't tell us how much Grant has earned from the business over the years, or what it has paid out to its owners.

Company value is not personal wealth. Swaziboy's net assets belong to the company, and Grant owns a share of it alongside his daughter. They are not a measure of what he is worth, and a micro-entity balance sheet says nothing about the money he earns from acting.

Where his money actually comes from

Four decades of screen work

Acting is where most of his public career has been spent, and his fees leave no public paper trail. His film debut as Withnail in 1987 made him famous. Studio films and literary adaptations followed: Hudson Hawk, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Age of Innocence, Gosford Park, The Iron Lady, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Saltburn. On television he has appeared in Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Disney+'s Loki (as Classic Loki) and Netflix's Persuasion.

His role as Jack Hock in Can You Ever Forgive Me? won him an Independent Spirit Award and earned Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations. We could not find any published figure for his fees, and we won't guess at them. The Swaziboy filings give no sign that his acting income passes through that company.

Books, directing and live shows

Grant has published several books: With Nails, his film diaries (1996); a Hollywood novel, By Design (1999); The Wah-Wah Diaries; and his memoir A Pocketful of Happiness, written mostly during the last year of Joan's life. He wrote and directed Wah-Wah (2005), loosely based on his childhood in Swaziland. He has said on an Australian chat show that the film was not released in France and that his producer did not make money from it. He has also toured An Evening with Richard E Grant in Australia (2022) and the UK (2023). We found no published earnings figures for any of them.

JACK, the side business

In April 2014 Grant launched JACK, a unisex scent sold first at Liberty on Regent Street. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he developed and financed it himself rather than licensing his name to a big perfume house, and other scents such as JACK Covent Garden followed. He runs the business with his daughter. The Swaziboy balance sheets show a small company, but they don't reveal what JACK has earned him.

Why The Celebrity Traitors put his money in the spotlight

Grant was one of the best-known names in the second series of BBC One's The Celebrity Traitors, which began in early October 2026. He and Maya Jama were picked as Traitors in episode one, and, as LADbible reported, he blurted out his role to a group of Faithfuls almost straight away. On 8 October 2026 he became the first Traitor banished. As The Tab reported afterwards, he called the slip "a completely catastrophically idiotic thing to do!"

Every series of the show triggers a wave of "rich list" stories about the cast, and Grant's numbers have come almost entirely from those lists. If you are comparing castmates, our pieces on James Blunt and Ross Kemp also check the headline figures against Companies House. Our Jerry Hall profile looks at why her published estimates vary so widely, and our Claudia Winkleman profile does the same for the show's host.

What can be verified?

Published estimates put Richard E Grant's net worth at £6m to £8m, but none of the outlets shows how it got there, and his personal wealth can't be established from public records. The one set of documents we can check is small: Swaziboy Limited, which appears to be the company behind his perfume line, had net assets of £121,651 in March 2026 and is co-owned with his daughter. Anything beyond that is an estimate. Treat it as one until Grant or a primary filing says otherwise.
