Dale Vince does not have an official net worth figure. Gloucestershire Live reported an estimate of about £107m in April 2022. The documents that matter more are newer: in a judgment dated December 2024, a High Court judge adopted a £153.5m pre-tax valuation of his business interests and awarded his ex-wife £43.51m, payable in three instalments. His holding company, which he owns outright, reported net assets of £128.6m in its accounts to 30 April 2025.

Vince is back in the headlines because Forest Green Rovers, the National League club his group owns, has decided not to replace manager Robbie Savage for now. Savage left for Peterborough United at the start of October, and Vince told BBC Radio Gloucestershire there was "no vacancy": coaches Jonathan Gould, Josh Bowen and Yan Klukowski are running the team. So how much is the man behind Ecotricity worth? Here is what the court record and Companies House show, and what they leave out.

How Dale Vince made his money

Vince was a New Age traveller before he went into wind power. In 1995 he set up the business that became Ecotricity, then called The Renewable Energy Company, and built some of the earliest commercial wind turbines connected to the National Grid. It grew into a green energy supplier for homes and businesses. In 2021 the group sold its Electric Highway car-charging network. The High Court judgment says that sale brought "a very significant cash injection" after Covid had put the businesses at real risk.

Today everything sits under Green Britain Group Limited. According to its 2025 group accounts at Companies House, the group includes:

  • Ecotricity Limited, the energy supplier: revenue up 20.6% to £551.9m and a pre-tax profit of £10.3m in the year to April 2025, with 188,000 meter points on supply.
  • Generation: 74 turbines across 22 wind parks plus three solar parks.
  • Forest Green Rovers, which the accounts call the world's first certified vegan football club.
  • Smaller ventures, including Forest Green Kitchen, Britwind small wind turbines, the Ecotalk mobile network and the Sky Mining Company, which makes diamonds from captured carbon.

The accounts describe a "not for dividend" model, with surplus funds directed towards the group's environmental mission. Group cash and group assets are separate from Vince's personal finances.

What the divorce judgment reveals

The most detailed public picture of his wealth comes from Vince v Vince [2024] EWFC 389 by Mr Justice Cusworth, dated 20 December 2024 and handed down on 17 January 2025. Three accountants valued the business group:

ExpertValue of the group (excluding donations)
Instructed by Dale Vince£148.4m
Single joint expert (PwC), adopted by the court£153.5m
Instructed by Kate Vince£165.8m

Once costs of sale, capital gains tax and other deductions were taken off, the judge worked from a net business figure of £112.8m. He put the couple's total assets at £129.65m. That figure covers both spouses and the assets outside the business.

Kate Vince was awarded half of the part of the business built up during the marriage: £41.81m, or £43.51m with interest when paid in three tranches. The first payment was due by 30 April 2025 and the other two annually after that. Vince keeps full ownership of the companies. The couple had already divided their non-business assets on a broadly equal basis, with property net equity of about £5.5m for Vince and £5.2m for Kate Vince. The Independent put the combined legal costs at an estimated £6m.

The judge noted that valuations of private companies are "among the most fragile valuations which can be obtained". Read £153.5m as a carefully argued estimate, not a price anyone has paid.

According to The Independent, Vince had proposed £50m in a voluntary arrangement four years before the ruling, which Kate Vince declined. His lawyers said she had sought more than £60m. Those are the parties' own accounts.

What the 2025 accounts add

The group accounts for the year to 30 April 2025, filed in February 2026, are the latest available. Group net assets rose to £128.6m from £119.2m, cash reached £97.8m and the group made a pre-tax profit of £6.2m, after a £7.3m loss the year before. During the year it sold its shares in Good Energy for £23.7m.

A related-party note records £17.7m owed to the group by Vince at 30 April 2025, following advances of £17.5m during the year. The balance was interest-free, unsecured and repayable on reasonable demand.

So what is Dale Vince worth in 2026?

No source gives a current, verified figure, and we are not going to invent one. Here is how the numbers fit together:

  • The press estimate: Gloucestershire Live reported an estimate of around £107m in April 2022, when Vince announced plans to sell Ecotricity. He halted the sale in November 2022.
  • The court valuation of £153.5m is higher, but it is a pre-tax figure for the whole business. The court separately awarded Kate Vince £41.81m, or £43.51m including interest under the three-instalment schedule.
  • Group net assets of £128.6m are an accounting figure for the whole group, not a market value of his shares and not personal wealth.

The court valuation and group net assets do not establish Vince's personal net worth in 2026. At the time of the 2024 judgment, the court described the business as "the overwhelming majority of the parties' asset base". Any single "net worth" number you see online should be treated as an estimate.

Forest Green Rovers and the money

Vince became a major shareholder at Forest Green in 2010, and the club now sits inside his group. Building work continues on Eco Park, the planned new stadium and green technology hub. On the manager question, Vince said there is no rush and no talks with candidates: "We like where we are, we're going to see how it goes maybe for a few games, maybe for a month."
